Coparenting with Courtenay Rogers

In the fast-paced hustle of life, it's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of daily routines and forget what truly matters. But sometimes, life throws us a curveball that shakes us to our core and forces us to reevaluate everything. For one parent, that moment of reckoning came in the form of a mental health emergency involving their daughter.

“At the end of 2022, my world turned upside down when my daughter experienced a mental health crisis. It was a harrowing experience that shattered the illusion of normalcy and plunged us into a reality we never imagined. In that moment of crisis, as we grappled with the urgent need for help, I realized that we couldn't continue down the same path.

My daughter's father, who lives in another state, rushed to be by her side the following morning. In the depths of despair, we shared a silent understanding that something had to change. Our previous behaviors, fueled by resentment and miscommunication, were only exacerbating the situation.

It was a pivotal moment of clarity. I knew I had a choice: continue down the destructive path we were on, or make a radical shift in behavior. I chose the latter. I let go of the anger and resentment, not just towards my ex-husband but also towards myself. From that moment forward, our daughter became the focal point of our efforts.

Gone were the days of petty squabbles and passive-aggressive communication. We realized that true co-parenting went beyond sharing calendars; it required open, honest dialogue and a shared commitment to our daughter's well-being. Whether it was a simple cold or a significant family event, we made a conscious effort to keep each other informed and involved.

In the aftermath of the crisis, we embarked on a journey of healing and growth. Therapy became not just a tool for our daughter's recovery but also a lifeline for our family dynamics. We learned to communicate effectively, set aside our differences, and prioritize our daughter's mental health above all else.

Looking back, I'm grateful for the wake-up call that forced us to confront our shortcomings as parents and individuals. While the road to healing is long and arduous, it's a journey worth taking for the sake of our daughter's future. Today, our family is stronger and more resilient than ever, united by a shared commitment to love, support, and prioritize mental health above all else.”
